Posto Boda (Toasted Chops of Poppy Seeds Paste)

Posto Bora / Posto Boda is another popular recipe in everyday Bengali Cuisine, made up of poppy seeds (posto / khuskhus) paste and eaten with rice and biuli dal (urad dal). This is a dry dish prepared either by deep frying or shallow toasting of the chops made up of poppy seeds paste.

Poppy Seeds are soaked in water and blended to form a coarse paste. This raw paste (known as Kancha Posto) is a dish by itself where you can mix chopped onions & green chillies with a little mustard oil.

Well here is the recipe for Posto Boda (I prepared through shallow frying / toasting method)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup poppy seeds / posto / khuskhus
  • 2 small onions, finely chopped
  • 1-2 green chilli, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp atta
  • salt to taste
  • mustard oil, to toast

Procedure:

Soak poppy seeds in hot water for 15-20 mins. Drain and grind in a blender (with a little amount of water) to form a coarse paste.

Add atta, finely chopped onions, green chilli to the poppy seeds paste and mix well. Heat oil in a kadhai. Add 2-3 drops of the hot oil in the poppy paste and mix well.

Take a small amount of the mixture, press with hand to form flat circular shaped balls.

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a flat non-stick tawa / pan. Reduce the flame, place the flat circular shaped balls on the heated tawa / pan and cook on medium heat.

Let the balls set on the tawa / pan. Flip to the other side, add 1 tsp of mustoil and ensure even toasting on both sides.

Serve hot with steaming rice and biuli dal (urad dal).
